How we celebrated the Bicentenary in 2017-2018.

Here are just a few of the things we achieved during this HLF funded project;

  1. The release and re-release of new and old books on The Pentrich Revolution.
  2. Commemorative first day covers, postcards and maps.
  3. Sixteen walks in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, the area of the original march and also three walks around Sydney in Australia where some of the men were deported and then settled.
  4. Local exhibitions and information at events and in pubs, community halls, libraries and galleries.
  5. The Big Event. A weekend of celebration on 9th /10th June 2017, with entertainment 200 years after the original march. Descendants of the revolutionaries from around the world came as our guests.
  6. Literature, leaflets, and pamphlets for the walks.
  7. The production of Education Resources for local schools to encourage the children to take part in celebrating the Bi-centenary of this part of their local history - England’s last armed rebellion.
  8. Items and books from the project are now archived at The Derbyshire Record Office.
  9. The bicentenary has been commemorated by siting Information Boards in villages along the route of the march. These start in Pentrich and South Wingfield and end in Giltbrook where the men where finally apprehended. There is also an Information Board at Sutton in Ashfield where Jeremiah Brandreth lived.
  10. In October 2018 members of the Pentrich and South Wingfield Group visited Australia to do the three Australian walks with U3A Sydney, to give talks and mount a small exhibition.
